John was born and raised in Florida. He has lived in Washington DC and Rochester NY. John moved to Hornell ten years ago and owns a home on East Main Street in Ward 6.
John has been married to Michael Hopkins for over 30 years. Michael is the executive director of Finger Lakes SPCA and priest-in-charge at the Church of the Redeemer in Addison. They share their home with Lincoln the beagle, Molly the black-mouth cur, and Julius the cat.
John ran for the City of Hornell Ward 6 alderman in 2023. He is the chair of the Hornell Democratic Committee and secretary of the Steuben County Democratic Committee.
Professionally, John has worked as a paramedic, a health educator, and an instructional designer. For the past 11 years, he has been employed as an instructional designer by a global company that specializes in teaching communication skills to business professionals. John is proud to be a member of the Democratic Party. However, he believes that polarising partisan politics is counterproductive in local government. If elected, John will work across party lines to develop collaborative solutions for the challenges facing our community.
